Harpswell Garden Club at the GCFM Convention
This year’s GCFM Convention was held at the Atlantic Oceanside Hotel and Event Center in Bar Harbor, Maine on June 17 and 18. Harpswell Garden Club was well represented with twelve members and two spouses attending the convention. Festivities began with a reception at Garland Farm to recognize State Life Members. During the evening, the club’s president, Cindy Mudford, was presented with her State Life membership certificate and pin by GCFM President Becky Gallery.
The convention opened with a fabulous garden tour on a beautiful June day. Five gardens provided a variety of styles and inspiration for all who were on the tour. Beautiful gardens in picture-perfect settings! The gardens were followed by a floral demonstration from designer Vince Butera and a reception on the lawn of the historic Willows. After dinner, Bill Cullina, Executive Director of the Morris Arboretum at the University of Pennsylvania, gave a presentation entitled “What Do You Mean I am Not a Perennial?”
Day two of the convention offered a final chance to shop with the venders, purchase tickets for the opportunity drawing and enter bids in the silent auction. The business meeting and luncheon were followed by Valencia Libby’s program on “The Roots of the Native Plant Movement” and concluded with the presentation of awards by Awards Chairman Karen Rea. Finally, GCFM President Becky Gallery presented tokens of appreciation to convention organizers.
