News about our National Convention
The National Garden Clubs, Inc. held its national convention in Charleston, South Carolina from May 19-23. Maine was represented by its current state federation president, Karen Rea, the Chair of Plant America-Feed America project Suzanne Bushnell and President-Elect of GCFM, Becky Gallery. Events included awards presentations, life membership recognitions, keynote speakers and opportunities to see Charleston, its gardens and historic sites. The first evening’s program featured the Award of Excellence presentation to the Director of Saco, Maine’s Ecology School, Drew Dumsch. Later in the week, the New England attendees met for a breakfast where outgoing region director, Sue Miner, turned the gavel over to Polly Brooks, New England Garden Club’s new director. Finally, all incoming State presidents were recognized at the conclusion of the annual business meeting.
