Another Fabulous Fall Fest in Harpswell
Saturday, September 7 was a perfect day for our club’s annual fundraiser. Blue sky, just-right temperatures and a gentle breeze. The area around Centennial Hall buzzed with activity early in the morning. By 7:00 a.m. tents were going up, products being unloaded and displays set up. A table with free coffee was among the first to be completely set out.
Soon after the canvas canopies were up, cars filled with baked delights arrived to fill the tables at the Bake Sale tent. Beautiful floral arrangements were on display near the road for visual delight. Mums and asters were set out for passers-by to admire and hopefully purchase to add fall color to their homes.
Inside Centennial Hall, the yard sale team put final touches on the attic treasures displayed for sale. Music began to play as the patrons lined up to await the opening of the event. By 8:25 a.m. all was ready, and the fun began! By the close of business, the baked goods were sold out, bouquets all in new homes and only a few mums left for another day’s sale. The yard sale items were mostly sold, and those that remained were being boxed for donation to thrift shops and Goodwill. The beautiful quilt “Aurora Borealis” was raffled off, to the delight of the winning ticket holder.
Once again, the people of Harpswell came in support of our garden club. With their support, we have funds to provide the camp scholarships we offer each year, to maintain our gardens and to provide interesting programs for our members. It is always a huge team effort to pull off our fall fest, and thanks go out to all who donated items, sorted yard sale goods, priced baked goods and tended the booths during the sale. Thanks especially to our fabulous co-chairs, Annette and Sue, for all their hard work organizing the event, the publicity and the volunteers.
And finally, a huge thank you to all the garden club members who shopped, volunteered and offered their support to our club. The Fun and Fabulous Fall Fest is successful because of you!
