Here Come the Holiday Celebrations!
Harpswell Garden Club is in decorating mode. On Sunday, November 27, several members and their spouses met at Centennial Hall to dress it up for the holidays. The lights were strung on the tree (ever taller each year!) and garland placed on the porch railings. Bows were fastened, and all is ready for the December 3rd Tree Lighting Celebration.
On November 28, club president Tuckie Westfall led volunteers in preparing the Pejepscot History Center for its holiday events. After tying bows for nearly two dozen wreaths, the happy decorators hung the wreaths on doors and windows at the center’s headquarters, then placed more on the wrought-iron fence along the Park Row sidewalk. They
then went to the Joshua Chamberlain Museum across the Brunswick town green to add wreaths there as well.
Finally, on Saturday evening, carolers gathered to celebrate the annual tree lighting at Centennial Hall. Rain and wind do not deter the garden club from its holiday kick-off! Cookies and cocoa were on hand to refresh the singers after the official lighting of the tree.
To complete our holiday preparations, the Harpswell Garden Club will again assemble the mugs of cheer that we donate to Harpswell Aging at Home (HAH). Volunteers with HAH will distribute nearly 50 mugs of greens and holiday cheer to our older neighbors who may be alone for the holidays. The club’s members enjoy the festive afternoon activity, working with friends to fill the mugs and knowing their efforts will add cheer and good will to others in town.
Happy Holidays!
