Harpswell participates in GCFM Convention
The Harpswell Garden Club was well-represented at the 2023 annual convention, held on Southport Island on June 13. The Newagen Seaside Inn was the site selected by host garden clubs of the Medomak District. On Monday, preceding the convention, tours and a lecture at Coastal Maine Botanical Gardens were available to early-arriving gardeners.
Tuesday’s rains held off long enough for the morning’s garden tour. Following lunch and a program on plants for pollinators, Becky Gallery presented the 2023 GCFM Scholarship winner, Aspen Anderson of Brunswick, with certificates for both the GCFM scholarship and the National Garden Club’s scholarship. Judy Stallworth, Awards chairman, announced this year’s winners, and Harpswell received several awards, including being named a Club of Distinction. The convention concluded with the installation of officers for 2023-2025, conducted by former GCFM President Suzanne Bushnell of Harpswell. Karen Rea will serve as president, Harpswell’s Becky Gallery as First Vice-President, Margaret Curran as Treasurer, and Joan Toy as Recording Secretary. We wish these ladies success in their leadership of Maine’s garden clubs.
