Getting Ready for our Summer Gardens
Our annual spring clean up took place at our gardens early in May. Thank you to all who were able to participate. We gathered at Harpswell’s Town Office garden and cleared winter’s debris, then added fresh mulch to the garden. Many hands made for a short work day!
Our next stop was delayed a bit by weather and other circumstances. A dozen volunteers arrived, tools in hand on May 6 to begin the raking and pruning. Fertilizer was applied, and the moving of mulch began. It takes many cart-loads to distribute six yards of mulch! The process continues. While much work has been accomplished, we still have another yard or two of mulch to put onto the beds. With good weather, another opportunity for volunteers is on Saturday, May 20, beginning at 8:30 a.m. All are welcome!
Finally, the Union Church work day was almost ignored. Only one person was able to join the Union Church chairman on the appointed day. Work remains! Our volunteers are over-committed and under-staffed. We need the help of many to fulfill our club’s mission to care for all our gardens. Contact us at harpswellgardenclub@gmail.com to find out how you can help.
