July Program Features a Great Floral Designer
If you forgot to mark last Thursday’s July program on your calendar, featuring John Sundling, you really missed out on a wonderful day of floral design! John is the owner of his own business in Portland called the Plant Office and besides selling plants and flowers, he also does floral arrangements for special events. With his background in theater set design, you could tell John has an eye for “theatrics” in mixing color and various textures in his floral designs. He’s also quite well known in Portland for his work with the Portland Museum of Art as he helps to coordinate their annual “Art in Bloom” event. In the past he’s been the creator of the striking designs seen hanging from the ceiling in the Museum’s lobby.
For his program last Thursday, John came early to Harpswell Historic Park Garden to select a variety of flowers and foliage growing in our own landscape as well as in the Cutting Garden. A few members also donated some special flowers and foliage to supplement what could be found in the gardens surrounding Centennial Hall. John was particularly impressed with the hosta flowers he cut from the giant hosta found at the bottom of the ramp leading up to Centennial Hall. At the end of his demonstration, five lucky members went home with the arrangements he created!
