On a beautiful June day, members of Harpswell Garden Club arrived at Hawk Ridge Farm in Pownal. Our host, June LaCombe, met us under an ancient maple tree and invited our group to explore the paths through gardens, field and wood, where we encountered dozens of sculptures. Set in the natural surroundings, these stone and metal artworks shone in the sunlight and dappled shade.

After our exploration, we had lunch in nearby Freeport, then ventured further south to the gardens of club member Susan Hazzard. Her seaside gardens provide further inspiration to our efforts in gardening. Our thanks go to June for her wonderful display of art in nature and to Susan, who has created beauty on the shores of Casco Bay.
