Garden Club visits a Glorious Garden
On a beautiful July morning, several members of the Harpswell Garden Club ventured out to Otisfield, Maine to see the gardens of Barred Owl Day Lilies. Our hosts, Rex and Craig, graciously greeted our group, and led us through the multitude of garden beds, each filled with colorful flowers of all sorts. Bees buzzed around hydrangeas and butterflies fluttered over the allium. We walked in wonder, surrounded by hundreds of day lilies, coneflowers, ice plants, zinnias and more. Our hosts’ passion for the gardens was evident in the joy they demonstrated when talking to us. After we had wandered through the gardens and asked a zillion questions, we sat under a canopy, enjoying our lunches, chatting with our hosts. The freshly-baked cookies were delicious. And as we prepared to leave, a surprise awaited: Craig wheeled out a cart filled with day lily plants for each of us to take home. To Rex and Craig, we offer thanks for the wonderful day, and for your generosity in sharing your beautiful gardens with us.
