Our garden club has an evening meeting this week. On Thursday, September 15, we gather at the Kellogg Church on Route 123 in Harpswell. Refreshments will be served at 6:30 pm. and our president, Ann Standridge, will make announcements at 7:00pm. Following the brief business session, our speaker, Kookie McNerney of the University of Maine’s Cooperative Extension Service, will give a presentation on using native plants in our landscape.

The Harpswell Garden Club is a partner in Harpswell Invasive Plant Partnership. The HIPP offered two programs this summer on identifying invasive plants, and worked to remove invasive plants from several Harpswell Heritage Land Trust properties, as well as the roadsides in the town of Harpswell. Once we remove these invasive plants, what do we do with the empty spaces? Kookie will help fill us in!
